If you encountered the "Github authentication failed" error, as seen below, please do the following:

1. Go to your Github connections (https://github.com/account/connections) and look for the 'Cloud9' connection, as shown below:

2. Delete the Cloud9 connection by clicking on the x on the right.
3. Go to c9.io again and log in again by clicking on the Github icon. You should see the App Authorization screen:

After that, you should be able to sign in through Github as before.

I am a new user, connected to github. I've just done that and it didn't work.
What else can I do?
This does not fix the problem for me - I am unable to link my Github account - I was able to successfully sign in initially using Github, but created the double account problem.
I am having the same issue and the above did not help - I had 3 different connections that i have revoked (all said cloud 9 in some form) still no joy. my issue is with regards to sign in - i have been using cloud 9 on a few occasions in the past.
This is still a problem, fwiw.
Sorry, meant to say "This is a problem, and the above fix doesn't work for me either."
I went in and removed all of my applications just to see if that might work.
This is a problem, and the above fix doesn't work for me either.
1. I went to c9.io and wanted to login as a github user, but that created a new account.
2. I logged out, went to my github profile, revoking the cloud9 application.
3. Got back to c9.io, logged in using email/pass and tried to connect to my github
=> FAIL!
